Baldur’s Gate @ The Friendly Arms Inn

I found and have been having a lively time at The Friendly Arms Inn.  I had difficulty at first finding the Inn entrance because it was in the dark of night and I didn’t see the stairs leading up.

Once I did, a Mage Assassin insisted I must die.  I was barely able to mount a defense when my character started running in circles, then was dead.
On my second try, (doink) I forgot to equip my bow and went running up to him sword in hand.  It ended badly.
Try three, bow equipped, I sent Imoen in to talk to him.  It is so odd he decided she was the one he needed to kill, though she clearly was not the glorious Atheren.  Imoen died, but I did not, so full save.

As I was looking to find out how to boot her dead corpse from my party, I saw she could be revived at the handy temple nearby for a hefty 100 gold.  I had 299 so, I thought why not.

Before leaving town, I really need to make sure I am more familiar with party management.  Is there an ideal number of members and class makeup?  I need to make sure I can pause and get everyone in position, spells and weapons ready.  Should I be using my party members like little pack mules to carry things we find?  If they die, do they have enough loot on them to make it worth resurrecting them?

Should I go directly to the next town or backtrack through the area to the south to make sure I get any loot or Xp there before moving on?
Excellent game, lots to think about.  Never fear I save constantly.  Just in case.

Baldur’s Gate Enhanced on iPad

I’ve been playing a little Baldur’s Gate in the evenings on my iPad .  Thinking recently of the allure of single player RPGs, this seems like the perfect place to start.

Many games don’t translate well to the touchscreen, but older RPGs are generally a good fit with their point and click interface.
So far combat is the only thing that doesn’t always respond to “clicks” in a timely way, which can mean death.
I was lost on the road to the Friendly Arm Inn in an earlier play through and didn’t like my character build so I started over from scratch with an eleven Ranger.
She got stuck in a doorway last night and no online tip helped get her loose, so backing up to a previous save.
There are many adventures to be had by those who proceed slowly and save often.

Tiny Screen Adventures: Monument Valley Stuck

I tried level five from the start and am stuck in the same spot.
You can’t pass the Crows by, they just yammer in your face when they’re nearby.
If you step on a purple square, the lever which turns to create stair ways and openings becomes inactive.
I was sailing along on these puzzles till this one.  Time to search the net for a solution.

Note:  I found the solution.  I did not see the possibility of it. I was able to use the same trick in the next bit of the puzzle as well so they won’t fool me again.  In this particular way.

Tiny Screen Adventures: Monument Valley

Monument Valley is an elegant little puzzle game for IOS.  You guide The Silent Princess through a world of bridges and towers and rotating platforms.

Sometimes she’s upside down or sideways but she can always make her way along with a twist here or there.
There is a storyline but I’m only up to chapter five so I can’t guess what our mysterious Princess is making her way towards.
Music in the game perfectly fits the gameplay.

Note:  I’m stuck on level 5 😦     The crows have me blocked and I am not seeing how to bypass them.  I will give it some more effort before I cheat and see if anyone has tips.

Tiny Screen Adventures: in Rapture With The Wrench

Figure “A” handy wrench
It’s all good now.  I’ve made my way into Rapture and have Andy Ryan guiding me along.  I was able to save and load so we’re off.
Floating towards the city in the bathosphere , I thought what I thought of it in the past: what a magnificent underwater city, it’s too bad it didn’t work out.
Then you’re inside and a guy with long hooks for hands kills another guy right outside the bathosphere.
You move with your left thumb and turn/look up and down with your right.  Coordinating the two makes you glide along smoothly but it’s hard for me to maintain.
As you can imagine once I was attacked from out of the darkness by a crazy, my thumbs went wild and I swung the wrench all over ending in my death.
That was quick.

Tiny Screen Adventures: The Longest Journey

Save after every conversation is my new motto.   Many aren’t long, but our girl April is…the B Word.

You traditionally try to talk to everyone in this type of game to get information about the game and the world.  I take the most polite options offered but she still manages to blast everyone she meets with some rudeness.
We appear to be on a future earth but it isn’t a sleek future.  Everything seems grungy.

Except for this park, of course.
I’m hoping our April snaps out of her eternal witchiness and becomes likeable soon or she’s sailing over the next cliff she comes to.

Tiny Screen Adventures: Syberia

I hoped I would be spending a short time at the train station in Barrockstadt, but I’m still working to find a way to get the train moving again.

Because it has a clockwork mechanism, it needs to be wound up again before the journey can continue.  I found a winding tool of sorts.

In order to get my immobile train up there I need to:
Open some locks so a tugboat can pull the train forward.
Fix a mechanical bandstand for three University regents who must have graduated from Three Stooges University.
Recover a mammoth doll from a paleontologist who creates wine as a side hobby.
It may not sound like much to do but the path to accomplishing anything is very long.
